Down the Pipes

Now this is interesting stuff… Yahoo Pipes is what can be best described as feed/data mashup service. It can combine and filter out data from several feeds to deliver ony the content you’re interested it.

Let’s look at one example:

NY Times through Flickr analizes data on the NY Times home page and uses those keywords to find photos on Flickr. Or the one that combines Craigslist appartment search and Yahoo maps to find you an appartment that is close to something (say a hospital or your office). Or the one that combines news feeds from Yahoo!, Google, MSN, Findory, Bloglines, and Technorati.

I wonder if this will help me bring down the number of feeds I subscribe to?

*currently around 230 ;)

He could be that good… ;)

Search Engine Behavior Tree

Another excellent example of data visualisation from Information Aesthetics shows how 2,147,483,647 web pages, deliberately ordered in a binary search tree, were monitored by different search engines, such as Yahoo! Slurp, Google bot & msn bot, over a time period of a year.
