Trnfest 06 – Katalena

Taking on the Beasteaks for first place and KUD F.P. attendance record were etno/folk group Katalena. And what a fight it was to end this years month long Trnfest…

If you’ll allow me to borrow a quote from The Usual Suspects:

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world she did not exist.

I tell you, this woman is the devil herself

Partners in crime (some of them)

Trnfest 06 – Red Five Point Star

I was unfurtunately late for the party but this stand-in band for Gogol Bordello (who couldn’t make it due to some illness in the band) quickly made sure I’ll do pretty much anything to catch their next performance – Metelkova, 12.9., Gala Hala, together with Moveknowledgment)

Very cool, they describe themselves as dirty ska – (pure jamaican ska beat with a dash of punk, jazz, rockabilly, swing… ) I also heard a hint of surf rock in there. Definitely the most entertaining rendition of Besame Mucho I’ve ever heard.

Just one photo today (and not that great either)

Trnfest 06 – Neil Leyton & Turku romantic Movement

Nice, very nice… impressive even. Partially made up for the fact I missed Frequency festival.

Some teenage groupie damn near came just by looking at them

PS They are playing unplugged at Cafe Pločnik on 29th. Neil comes back in October for another tour.

BTW In 2004 Leyton launched Fading Ways Music UK with business partner Ashlyn Eaton, embracing Creative Commons licenses (attribution, non-commercial, share alike), endorsing file-sharing and cultural freedom while most of the music industry launched reactionary lawsuits against so-called “pirates”.

Neil will trade you these boots for a telecaster
