BusinessWeek Cover Story

A chance encounter with BusinessWeek revealed an interesting cover story about blogs. They approached the blogging phenomenon from PR/business perspective which is currently the most talked about issue however they did comment on something that has a broader impact.

Among other things RSS is turning the web itself on its head, all these years people have tried to design usable, good looking and interactive websites. All the efforts went into improving design, incorporating new features etc. We’ve got everything from CSS and flash to server side scripting/programming languages and databases to make the sites useful and worth visiting.

Then along comes RSS and (especially) design no longer matters much. People follow the content though aggregators not browsers. Suddenly what does matter is content and nothing but content. Design became obsolete.

Some people, since hardly anyone bothers to visit their websites, are already starting to think about the possibility of using only RSS. No website to serve as a frontend, no unnecessary clutter, just simple content. That’s it.

How do we get around this issue? Should we get around this issue?

Deep Throath

Personally I’m a bit dissapointed.
I thought this would remain a mistery, like JFK assassination, and hoping it was actually someone higher in the administration.

Why did he reveal himself, why now? Money? Fame? At 91?
Or more likely – his family wanted all that.

His family members thought otherwise, and persuaded him to talk about his role in the Watergate scandal, saying he deserves to receive accolades before his death. His daughter, Joan, argued that he could “make enough money to pay some bills, like the debt I’ve run up for the children’s education.”

Masters of Remix

hehe… apparently whales remix and copy songs from each other.

These songs evolve over time and riffs get passed from whale to whale across the world. The songs have lots of interesting variations and even have rhymes. He made an interesting observation that the whale songs of the 60’s were much more beautiful than the whale songs these days.
