IHA Graz 2009 show report

Hanibal got his second show appearance at IHA Graz dog show and this time he won without much of a problem.

And so Hanibal adds another CACIB, a CACA and a best of breed title to his pedigree.

Judge’s comments (Uschi Eisner, AT) with translation:

  • Harmonisch aufgebaute Rüde (harmoniously built dog)
  • Sehr schoner kopf m. typ Ausdruck (very nice head, m. type expression)
  • helles Auge (bright eyes)
  • havanafarben (havana colors)
  • schön geformte Brust (nicely formed front)
  • kräftige Knochen (strong bones)
  • gute winkelung (good angulation)
  • gut getragene Rüde (well carried dog)
  • flottes Gangwerk (jaunty motion)
  • angenehmes wesen (agreeable character)

(note there might well be mistakes in the transcript that make even less sense when translated, I tried my best)

Krnica ride

Finally got some decent skiing done last week on Kanin. With record snowfall it was as close to a dream as you could possibly get. It could only be better if there was fresh powder, rather than compacted crud and ice. But it was still soooooo good.

In the name of ice

Spend a winter in Finland and you’ll get in touch with ice. Lots of it. Whether the contact is painful or fun really depends on you and what you’re doing on it. I was either on a bike or on foot learning how to handle a kite. Others went fishing, or kite boarding, or skating. Some managed to fall through into freezing water below, misjudging the time it takes to thicken enough. But everyone definitely heard the impressive moans and cracks as the ice moved and expanded. And it sure was fun if sometimes scary when you’re hundreds of meters away from shore and the ice is sometime so clear and transparent you have to think twice if you’re walking on water or ice, hoping it really is thick enough to carry you.
