Light Transmitting Concrete

It’s been a while since I last wrote about things related to architecture. The dry season ends now with at least two (yes, 2) posts.
An article I read recently reminded me of something I’ve heard about a few years back and the idea of transparent concrete appealed to me immediately. The applications seem endless from see-through walls that help illuminate every dark corner of a building to interesting lighting concepts.
I’d love to have a house made of this stuff.. but as someone commented:

The only real downside at the moment appears to be a diminished load bearing capability.

Still, you could use it for non load bearing walls and internal partitions or sometimes even instead of windows when you don’t really need all that light.
