Usability of feed subscription

Comments(0) Jeffrey Veen finaly got the debate of user experience for feed subscription out in the open. He even got Scobleized 
Clearly it’s actually the most difficult step in an otherwise very simple concept of syndication. How is my grandma supposed to make sense from a bunch of weird icons and geek speak like
“syndicate this site” or “validate feed” ??
Not to mention the sites where the feed links are hidden somewhere, be it the footer among copyright notices or somewhere else?!
RSS, and even more so ATOM, are suffering from serious brand recognition and the current chaos doesn’t make it any easyer for mainstream acceptance.
