Photoblogs Magazine

Found another free online photo magazine ->
 Photoblogs Magazine

It’s not perfect but I was very impressed by some of the submissions. Perhaps a better word to describe it – inspiring – and that’s what a photography magazine should be about.

Almost a dream job

 CNN seeking a blog producer

Producer will cover web-logs (blogs), pod-casts, and other internet-based forms of new media. The web producer will locate, research, and report on blogs and web sites that include news, politics, policy, commentary, and other information of value to our viewers. The results will be daily television segments reporting on this area of the media. This person will be responsible for producing both the editorial content and also the graphic and video elements necessary to develop each segment. This person will also report on-air as needed.

One major drawback though (for me) – I have absolutely no desire to appear on TV

Project WEB

Is a project exploring possibilities in  wind energy for the built environment and the designs actually look very cool.

I’m quite intrigued by Urban Wind Energy Conversion Systems (UWECS) but still a bit sceptical of the wind concentrator design efficiency. What they’re trying to do with the peculiar kidney/boomerang shape is compensate for inability to turn into the wind. Who knows, it might just work.

Wind (and solar) energy has definite potential in certain applications but one serious flaw – it requires backup power that can be turned on and off in a very short amount of time.

Essentially what wind (and solar energy) is creating is surplus power in the grid. Usually at the wrong time as well.
It does not replace the “environmentaly unfriendly” yet stable, on demand, nuclear, gas or whatever powerplants.
Those will still have to be there (though may be used less). You’re simply not getting rid of them by installing some solar panels and a wind turbine as most people would like to believe.

Ideally you’d be able to store energy when there’s too much of it and release on demand to make wind/solar energy of any use in regular grid systems.

Where wind/solar energy really does work as it should are applications where time is not a factor. Charging batteries and stuff like that.

Unfortunately you can’t make wind blow or sun shine exactly when yon need it, for as long as you need it.
