.flv player for Windows Mobile

last update: November 7th, 2008

Since posting this back in October it has become by far the most visited page on here. Google Analitics says it brings over 71% of trafic to this blog (which is mind blowing actually). I really appreciate your visits and comments but please do not expect me to solve problems you may encounter when trying to install the software mentioned below. This post was intended merely as a reference to all the pieces necessary to play flv files on WM and nothing more. I have no connection with any of the developers and I honestly don’t know enough (about TCPMP, Windows Mobile, PDAs…) to act as tech support. I’m affraid you’re on your own. Good luck.

Yesterday I spent the better part of the evening trying to find something to play .flv movies (youtube et al) on Windows Mobile. You know how boring those train rides can be… Anyway, it was surprisingly hard to find one and that’s why I even bothered to start writing about it.

First few search hits promised that the TCPMP project should handle the job. It didn’t… Until I found the right .flv plugin on sourceforge this morning. And now those train rides will be just a little bit less frustrating. ;)

Just one additional note though… TCPMP as such has been discontinued and transformed into a commercial CorePlayer however the .flv plugin mentioned above won’t work under it. FLV is supported but (for some incomprehensible reason) not available in the consumer version (just the OEM version). Maybe its open source brother BetaPlayer will be of some use.

Here’s one for the return trip:

The problem some people are having, is if you decide to install the program and plugin onto your storage card instead of the built in memory, it’ll properly install the player but will mistakenly install the plugin files in your built in memory anyways. Just move those files (probably in \Program Files\TCPMP) into the same thing wherever the TCPMP program is supposed to be installed.

This is really helpful! I have been trying for the longest time to try and play flv files on my windows mobile and nothing really worked. Thank you for posting this :)

This is quick and easy. Ensure that you unzip the plugin on your system and then copy the .plg files into the destination folder of TCPMP in your PDA.

Thanks, this way quicker than that thought..!

Hi sorry i am a newbie. I just downloaded .flv plugin on sourceforge and had installed the .cab on my Windows Mobile 5 Device. After installing, what else needs to be done?

    12. Jernej @ February 5th, 2008

As far as I can remember I simply installed TCPMP (cab file) and copied the flv plugin to the TCPMP root directory.

    13. Daniel @ February 5th, 2008

Where is this TCMP root directory?

    14. Jernej @ February 5th, 2008

      should be: My Device/Program Files/TCPMP

    35. ERasergr @ October 12th, 2008

guys this really works!!!! so when you install the program and you put the plug ins inside you must go to the installed directory and find the tcpmp.exe, run it from there and select your file, will play perfectly!!!!!

My question is….if you know a plugin to play videos in my browser…i bought a pda HTC P3300.
      thanks!!!!!

opera mini 4,1 is really wonderfull and quick but it doesn’t play embeded videos to the browser.
and a plugin i download from macromedia, installed perfectly but they said that java will deactivate it!and it not work!
